Caring For A New Tattoo In The Right Way

As soon as you are done with your tattoo you are probably going to be concerned about how to take proper care of it. After you leave the tattoo parlor, the artist won't be responsible for any problems you might have later on if you fail to take proper care of it. It is rather essential that you follow through with the guidelines which are provided here. Even a very great tattoo may easily turn into a terrible disaster if you fail to take proper care of it after the procedure.

After you've gotten the tattoo, the tattoo artist will cover your tattoo with a bandage in order to prevent bacteria from getting into your tattoo. A tattoo is more or less a wound and a wound is an attraction for bacteria as well as other possible forms of infection. It is essential that you refrain from removing your bandage for at least two hours.

When you've removed the bandage, the next thing is to wash the tattoo. You should use lukewarm water and liquid antibacterial soap in other to wash away the ointment and blood from the tattoo area. Make sure you do not use a washcloth or any other abrasive material. Your hand will do just well, stick to these instructions to the letter so that you are absolutely sure you are taking good care of your tattoo.

Then pat (do not rub) the area firmly with a clean towel or paper towel to get it completely dry. Follow with a very light application of your choice of ointment. A&D vitamin enriched ointment would be my first choice, but if you don't have any, Bacitracin or a similar antibacterial ointment is acceptable.

Make sure you do not use Neosporin, it's a great idea for cuts and scrapes but it doesn't do as well for tattoos. Certain people have an allergic reaction to Neosporin and this may cause little red bumps which when they go away, make the ink go away as well.

After you have finished using the ointment for a period of between 3 and 5 days, then you should make sure that the tattoo is kept clean on a continual basis and for this you may use a mild lotion rather than using ointment. The purpose behind all this is to ensure that your skin is kept soft. Lotions that are free from dye and fragrances should also be used as well. Eucerin does wonders for a number of people too.

You can take a shower with your new tattoo but while it is okay to get your tattoo slightly wet, you shouldn't soak it or get soap on it. You should avoid swimming regardless of whether you are swimming in a pool or in the sea.

In a few days time you will experience some peeling and scabbing. If the scabbing is too much then it may mean that your tattoo has been done badly, you should apply moist compresses to your scabs for 5 minutes at least 2 or 3 times daily in order to soften it and the scabs will come off on their own much later. Taking the right care of your fresh tattoo means that you will experience some minor discomfort when your tattoo to begins to heal but don't pick at it or scratch it.
