When a GPS system is needed to be purchased for use in the open sea a marine system can cost up to ten thousand dollars. These types of systems are used by professionals and are not necessary for amateurs.

The portable outdoor unit can be used in cars or other vehicles, but is much more dependable as a means of navigation while on foot. The system that must be used for open ocean travel is the marine system. These devices are commonly used by fishermen and any other working man who must venture into the ocean to make a living. These systems are extremely useful in the open ocean where navigating becomes much more difficult. If one of these systems were to fail on its user he or she could find themselves lost in the vastness of the ocean.
