Creating Job Opportunities with an Online Degree
People get a degree in order to further their career. Either they want to get a career in a chosen field or they want to further their existing career. There is no other reason why anyone would invest the time and expense to getting a degree other than further themselves in the work place.
Earning an online degree is the key to a better life for most people. The key only fits if the employer does not change the locks. The decision to earn an online degree may depend on employment status, inability to time off to return to school, and young children at home. Online degrees provide an opportunity to further education without having to make unnecessary sacrifices in your lifestyle.
While employers may recognize that the need to maintain income while attaining a degree, many still refuse to acknowledge an online degree as valuable asset. There is still a stigma attached to correspondence programs, despite the fact that online education is becoming a more viable educational alternative.
Some older employers still reject the notion that anyone can earn a degree on the internet. However, many of these same employers also reject the entire notion of the internet.
Fortunately, theses employers are dying off and are being replaced by more progressive individuals who recognize the fact that more than 80 percent of Americans are online and that the internet has changed our way of life. Those who are watching the shift in educational values and are observing online graduates taking their place in the off line world in jobs that would not even have existed 10 years ago are seeing the trend move towards online education. People today way things quickly and conveniently and an online education is merely another means to that end.
Some employers dislike the idea of online degrees because they buck the norm. An employer can find out just as much about a candidate who attends an online school as those who attend an off line school. Anyone with an online degree should prepare themselves for questions that will most likely be asked regarding the degree on their job interview. They should be prepared to answer why they chose to attend an online education program instead of a traditional program. However, your poise and confidence at the job interview will be more important than where you earned your degree.
By attending a larger and more well known online education university, you will put to rest any doubts in the mind of your future employer. Chances are that you will not be the only person who has applied for a position using a degree from an online education program. The employer may be more familiar with the larger institutions than smaller institutions, which is a reason why many people tend to stay within the more well known online educational facilities such as the University of Phoenix or Capella University. These universities are pretty well known in the workplace and are not usually questioned.
Once an interview has been scheduled, be prepared to answer questions about choosing to earn a degree through an online program. The answer is that you wanted to keep your full time job, career advancement and taking care of your children. While employers like candidates with degrees in the workplace, employers also value candidates that are hard workers with strong achievement goals.
