Baby Modeling: Good Choice for Your Baby, or Bad Choice?
Baby modeling is often turned to by parents who are told that they have "cute, little darlings." Parents naturally think that if so-and-so thinks that my baby is so darling, that the whole world will think the same. Hopefully, however, said parents will give deep thought to the pitfalls and dangers that can plague such a pursuit. Baby modeling and, later, teenage and adult modeling can be filled with many trials and tribulations that can tax the sanity of even the most stable family.
If you can get by that warning, then you will want to know how to proceed. The obvious route is to go online and look for the free contest offerings. Because the first place to start is to get your baby noticed. Oh, sure you can submit photos to modeling agencies, but entering your baby into the free contests online or in your community is so much more fun and immediately rewarding, especially if your baby wins!
For those with a little more daring, entering your beautiful baby in a traditional beauty pageant is the place to be. The good thing here is that the sponsors of these events are usually the movers and shakers behind the scenes at modeling agencies, so you would be in direct contact with the right people. So, dust of f the baby tiara and princess suit and head to the runway.
The good thing about online photography contest entries, is that once you have entered your baby's pictures for any of these contests, they remain there for outside influences to find, such as modeling agencies and those with connections. If your baby wins the contest, even better. It could lead to more contests, and more exposure.
What about those cutest baby contests? The name says it all. These contests are executive magnets. What modeling executive wouldn't pay attention to cutest baby contests? If your baby wins or, heaven forbid, just place, in one of these contests, you can be sure that modeling agency executives are just around the corner, looking at all your cutest baby has to offer their clients. A good exposure event.
All this aside, I want you to pay close attention to the following. Oftentimes, parents are caught up in the starstruck lifestyle, wanting to live it by proxy through their baby. But, please, consider what you are getting you and your baby into before you leap willy-nilly into the fray. One thing to look at is how is your baby's general disposition in life? I mean, do you have a baby who is happy most of the time, smiling and laughing at everything? This would be a good thing, because modeling agency bigwigs do not hire grumpy babies who are hard to get along with others. Bad for business.
Then, look at yourself. What kind of parent are you? I don't mean, do you care for your baby, treating them well, feeding and clothing them, etc. No, I mean are you overbearing, and hard to work with? Because you will have to go along with your baby on his or her modeling journey. If you are not pleasant to work with, chances are, your baby will not be getting any modeling jobs any time soon.
Other than the above considerations, which should be warning enough, is to watch out for snake oil salesmen, those agencies who promise you and your baby the world on a silver platter...as long as you pay them up front. Bad idea. Reputable agencies get paid to get modeling jobs for your child. Not to consider thinking about maybe getting your baby modeling jobs, but maybe you should find the auditions yourself. These snake oil salesmen are out there unfortunately, so be warned and be on the lookout. Above all, care for your baby and enjoy the adventure, however long it lasts.
