What Are The Different Varieties of Credit Cards
All across the United States, there are hundreds and hundreds of banks and credit card companies looking for your business. This day and age, banks and credit card companies are in competition with each other, trying all they can to get your business. To try and get your business, they offer different credit cards with various incentives, rebates, and other perks.
It is important that you compare the various credit card companies and banks, before you actually make a decision. If by chance you receive a credit card offer in the mail, you should research it thoroughly on the Internet. It is also equally as important that you read any fine print. As well, make sure you have a full understanding of any costs or hidden fees associated with the credit card. Often times, banks or credit card companies who send offer through the mail, try and sneak costs and hidden fees in them.
Interest rates and APR vary from credit card to credit, therefore, it important that you compare the various credit card companies' current rates. You will want to get the lowest possible rate available. If you come across a credit card with an unusually high APR, then you should probably turn the other way. Credit cards that have a high APR rate can easily cause you financial difficulties. No matter what type of credit you have, allowing yourself to become a victim of high APR can quickly leave you with debt that will be hard to pay for.
Among the many options available to you, you'll have three primary choices for your credit card - Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. These three giants are the leaders in credit cards. Visa and MasterCard don't issue the cards themselves, they have banks and other companies issue on their behalf. American Express, or AMEX, is the only one that does everything themselves. AMEX issues their credit cards, maintains their own networks, and doesn't use any type of third party.
If you like to travel, you will probably want to choose either Visa or MasterCard, as they are accepted all over the world. American Express is the least accepted of the three, although the company is upgrading their networks every chance they get. Before too long, AMEX will be accepted virtually everywhere. Right now though, AMEX isn't accepted in all areas of the world.
Discover is another popular card with its own benefits, though it's not as well known as the three industry leaders. While Discover is accepted in most parts of the world, people with this card tend to keep it for local or emergency use. If you want a credit card to be used frequently, a Visa or MasterCard may be a better choice.
There are lots of cards to pick from, and the choice of credit card you use is up to you entirely. You'll have to find a card that works with your lifestyle and your needs. Cards can be found from local companies, or online.
While some people are afraid of Internet credit cards, they work well as long as you know what you're getting into. To save yourself time and money, be sure to research any potential credit card carefully before signing up.
