These days there are higher standards to be met. You are going to have to ba a little more creative than that to produce a more impressive cake. Now there is nothing wrong with this method at all, but to create a cake that's that little bit more special you will have to change your old mindset.

Rule # 1 - Stay Cool

Maybe you may have decided to bake and decorate your own cake from scratch,you have felt inspired lately to experiment in the kitchen. How hard can it be right?

Mistakes and irregularities will happen with your baking endeavours. The most experienced pastry chefs understand that this will happen,the only difference between them and you is that they have the necessary experience to quickly mask their mistakes.

Rule # 3 - Walk Before You Can Run With Your Confectionary Creation

Don't choose to make your first cake too elaborate an affair. when you are baking and decorating your very first cake try to start small don't let it get complicated.

Make your first cake nice and simple with the minimum of decoration. That way you will not be setting yourself up for a big disappointment.

Keep it fun and light at first, start by using ingredients that you have never thought of before. This could be something simple such as decorating with nuts and dried fruits and even edible flower petals.

Rule # 4 - Look Through Books and Magazines For Inspiration

You can pick up a lot of ideas for your first attempt at baking and cake decorating looking through books and magazines. But one thing to remember is don't let the information intimidate you into thinking this is too hard for me.

Modern day cake decorating has gone well beyond the usual butter cream variety.

Finding cake decorating instructions and motivation is easy all you have to do is get one or two of the many books, ebooks and magazines out there. You will also get a lot of useful ideas from these publications.
