Whitening Gels: Brightening Smiles Painlessly

An individual's likelihood of success, as well as his or her sense of self-esteem, is affected by many things. One of these is having an attractive smile. Unattractive teeth are embarrassing, and people who are uncomfortable with the appearance of their teeth are less likely to smile. Many people are willing to pay significant sums of money to whiten their teeth and brighten their smile.

One approach to accomplishing this goal is to utilize the services of a cosmetic dentist. These professionals, however, are very expensive, and may be unaffordable for many individuals. Another solution is to purchase home teeth whitening kits. These kits, available for between $20 and $300, are a slightly less expensive alternative. Another option is to locate a company that sells gel as a maintenance formula to r return customers.

One of the compounds available to consumers is Directwhite gel. This gel comes in two formulas, each with a different strength of carbamide peroxide. Developed in an FDA-approved laboratory, this product is sold in 3-ml syringes. The weaker gel is 22 percent peroxide, and can be used for 1-3 hours daily. The 45 percent strength, however, should only be applied for 30 minutes each day.

Durabrite whitening gel is another product that can be purchased through the internet. Available in similar syringes of 22 and 35 percent peroxide, these gels are sold for a nearly identical price. Like several others, Durabrite is compounded as a pure solution, and does not contain artificial filling agents.

One of the most simple to use gels is Easy Comfort whitening gel. This gel is for use as a maintenance formula for those who have already invested significant amounts into their smiles and wish to keep them white and bright. Only a five minute period is required for application. The manufacturers warn, however, that persons with gum disease or orthodontics should not use this product.

One of the easiest solutions to use that is currently available is Easy Comfort whitening gel. This gel, intended to be used as a maintenance regimen for persons who have completed a whitening program, helps to keep those pearly whites bright. The gel is intended to be applied for only five minutes each day. The product does come with one warning, however; persons who have gum problems or wear braces should avoid using this product.

The manufacturers of Day-White offer a product that appears to whiten as effectively using only 4.5 percent hydrogen peroxide as a primary ingredient. The compound also contains fluoride, however, which slows the whitening process. It also contains glycerin, a chemical that appears to result in the highest degree of mouth sensitivity.

Many compounds are available on the market today, and it is difficult to make a choice between them. The Microsoft Health Network advises that each of these gels seem to be equally effective. Some may cause mouth sensitivity for certain individuals, and so should be avoided. The consensus seems to be that the best approach is to try a few gels, find the one that works for you, and avoid any that appear to cause mouth or gum sensitivity.
