Is Your Internet Marketing Duff or is it Working?
Anyone trying to make a living with Internet marketing has at least three things against them: They are working on their own, they are being bombarded with new products all the time, and they will find it very tempting to jump from one money making plan to another. How does one ever succeed online?
Self-Discipline
Anyone who is their own boss has to be very self-disciplined. There is no one telling you to get up and get to work. No one (unless it is your spouse) is going to tell you to get off the phone or away from the TV and do something that will make money.
You are totally on your own. Keep the discipline up and make sure you schedule your time effectively. This is going to be vital to your business.
It also takes self-discipline to not spend hours going over e-mails instead of working. It is recommended that you limit the number of e-mail lists you join. Why subscribe to 50 e-mail lists and then have to spend two hours wading through your inbox deleting all those e-mails?
Signing up for two or three e-mail lists should be enough. Limit it to the experts you really want to hear from. Or better yet, subscribe to their RSS feeds.
New Stuff is released every day and it's all "Necessary for your Success!!" Don't be in a panic to buy everything that comes along. Quite a lot of stuff is repeated/rehashed gear and unless you can see a REAL benefit to your business then avoid the temptation and keep your money in your pocket.
If the product is something that will help streamline your business, you might want to consider it. Does it cut down on the amount of work you have to do? Does it include leveraging your time by giving work out to other people? It might be worth the investment.
Still beware of the glowing sales-copy though. These people are very good at it. Make sure you NEED a product before you buy it. Would you buy a new screwdriver if you already had one that works ok? This is for business not fun.
Constantly Focus on Your Tasks
A proper business plan is essential to make sure you stay focused and therefore to your success and to keep distractions at bay so devote some time to making one initially then make sure that you do NOT deviate from it.
If, after a reasonable amount of effort and time you find that your program or project is not working out for you the it may be time to consign it to the failed enterprises folder. Not everything works and there will be some casualties along the way. Make sure you're not giving up on something just because something else looks new and exciting though. Do this once and you could be business hopping forever.
Working from home is very exciting at first but like most things it can become routine and certain tasks become humdrum. It's a good idea to network with other home business owners from time to time and maybe change the routine around some after a period. Don't become bored with your business.
Your business plan is central to your success so never mess about with when you're tired and feeling a little down. You need to regain your focus when this happens so take a break and re-evaluate your plan when you are fresh and focused. Your business plan may be a good one and could just possibly need a little tweak or two.
