6 Tips You Should Know When You Learn Mentalism
I absolutely love magic! It's so mind-boggling and fun to watch. I've enjoyed magic for almost 13 years and still can't get enough. One area of magic that I find very interesting is mentalism. The idea of being able to read minds and do mind control tricks has always fascinated me. In this article, I'm going to talk about 6 points that will help you to learn mentalism for the aspiring magician.
1. Mentalism, what is it? Mentalism is considered to be different from general magic and is a specific area of magic that is unique. Mentalism is different in the way that it uses mind tricks to amaze spectators. If you are looking to get started with magic, you should learn mentalism because of the fact that there are really simple trick you can get started with.
2. Presentation. This is the area that you would probably want to concentrate on most. Of course you need to learn the trick, but a trick without proper presentation won't impress anyone. You need to be able to convey to your spectators that what you are saying is true. When you prep your spectator with words, the trick will become even more impressive.
3. Persuasion is a key tool that you will use when performing your tricks. When you understand how people think, you can persuade them to think otherwise. The key here is that you are able to persuade them a certain way and then perform your trick. If you perform your trick without the presentation beforehand, you may not be able to convince them of trick.
4. Misdirection and concealment. When you learn mentalism, you need to know how to draw the attention of your spectators. This is a key element in performing mentalist magic because by being able to understand how to control your spectator's eyes, you can pretty much do anything like make things disappear or grab a hidden card out of nowhere, etc.
5. Mind reading is probably the most common area that most people are familiar with when they learn mentalism. Now there are beginner and advanced areas of study in mind reading. As a beginner or aspiring magician, you should get familiar with the easier set ups of mind reading. For example, there are easy mind reading tricks where you write a prediction on a card and basically "guide" your spectator to that prediction. It will appear that you are reading their mind.
6. Card tricks are probably the next step up for the beginner looking to learn mentalism. You can mix in slight of hand or do simple card tricks that test the spectator's ability to remember cards. You can enhance your presentation with card tricks that are very effective with performing mentalism.
Now I hope these 6 things will help you in getting started when you learn mentalism. I advise you to start reading and practicing everything that you learn. Start with easier tricks and then try more difficult ones that require memorization and attention to detail. Once you have those small tricks under your belt, stringing them together will make for an awesome performance.
