5 Steps To Energize Your Putting

There are some secrets to success when on the putting green that you need to know. We are going to go over those here. One thing that you should do when you are putting is to try and keep your system and your routine just as simple as possible. This way there is less chance for error. You should have your own style when you are putting, and it should be that way I believe. This is the one part of the game that does allow you this, while the other parts of the game have some fundamentals that must be followed or things just don't go right.

One thing that you have to understand, is that there is really not a right or wrong way for you to have to setup or stand over the ball. For example, just look at how Sam Snead used to putt, so you can see what I mean. Try and not have any mechanical thought running through your head when you are about to putt. Your only concern should be the pace that you want the ball to roll at and how far to the left or to the right of the hole you want the ball to start at.

You want to think of it this way; the object is to see how close you can come to the hole each time. One of the nice things about this is that, if the ball goes in, it is a bonus. If you have watched the sport over the years, you know that there have been very successful putters, with very radical styles.

That tells you that you can do whatever is comfortable for you.

Here are some putting tips that should help you.

1.) You need to be relaxed and comfortable before you putt. If your body is tense and your arms are as stiff as boards and don't forget all the other tensing up things that are done prior to hitting the ball, your success rate is not going to be very good. Stay relaxed

2.) To make more putts is really not that hard. You must hit the ball in the middle of the putter face in order to make more. When this happens on occasion, you know, you felt it and you heard it. It felt good too. This must be your number one priority, which is to hit the ball in the middle of the putter face.

The pro's will tell you that most putts that are missed, whether they are short or right/left of the hole was due to the fact that the ball was not struck in the middle of the putter face. Not because you chose the wrong line to putt the ball on or the wrong speed for that line. Not at all. So, hit the ball in the middle of the putter and make more putts.

3.) What you must try to do each time you putt is to hit the ball solid. Don't go switching up your putting stroke all the time. Hit the putt solid more often will help you more.

4.) One of the main keys is your tempo - back and through. It doesn't matter if your tempo is fast, slow or in between, just be consistent with it back and then through.

5.) How many times have you looked up before you should have and you watch the ball miss the hole. What you don't want to do is to look up to soon to see what the ball is doing. You want to stay down and through the ball, keeping that left shoulder down. Don't PEEK. If you PEEK, you will probably watch the ball miss the hole. This is another main factor why you miss putts. Because you got a little quick in picking your head up before you should have. Keep that head down and make more putts.

Another problem that PEEKING will do is you will probably not hit the ball in the center of the putter face as mentioned earlier. You have to realize that everyone has this problem. The pro's do this on occasion also, but not as often as we do. Everyone want to see what the ball is doing. Avoid this as much as you can. Here is a tip to help you. Try and count to one after you hit the ball before you pick your head up. This is going to help you to keep your head down.

Try watching Anika and Tiger. They are good examples of great putting and keeping your head down. They can have a 10ft. putt and they will barely see the ball going in the hole. This is really your clue to what you need to be doing, which is keeping your head down. When you start to keep your head down longer your other body parts are going to do the same thing and stay down and through the putt longer. You will start to make more putts for sure.

Now you have some simple things that you can start to work on. Don't forget that your goal is to see how close you can get the ball to the hole, that all. Doing these 5 step will help you improve your putting.
