Getting To Grips With More Courses

Golf is one of the most exhilarating hobbies there is for many reasons. But one of the best is your time playing golf can take you to some of the most beautiful golf courses in the country. Many are surprised when they learn the culture of golf that playing the game is about a lot more than a set of clubs, some tiny golf balls and green grass with a hole in the middle. One of the joys of the game is being out there in nature, getting exercise on the finest resort golf courses there are. Naturally, it is always pleasant to play that familiar golf course at home that you know like an old friend. But the real challenge of golf is to take your game to a new course in another city or even another state or out of the country.

When you go to the expense of going on a golfing safari, you want to play at the peak of your skills and abilities on that new course so your final score is a true reflection of the competition between you and that course. The only way to be at your very best the first time you are on a world class golf course far from home is to have your own clubs with you. That means you are going to have to take your golf clubs on the road. And that means you will need to think ahead how to protect your clubs en route and how to make sure this big investment you have made in quality golf clubs stays in top notch shape for many years to come.

The last thing you would even dream of doing is checking your golf clubs unprotected and seeing a check in clerk put those clubs in their bag loose on the belt to go to baggage claim. Securing those delicate golf clubs in a top notch travel bag has to become part of your travel ritual. There are two kinds of golf travel cases so whether you go with a hard shell case or a soft sided one will make the difference in how well your golf clubs will survive the trip. But in general the hard shell case is able to protect your clubs against much more abuse.

From a cost perspective, the low impact financial choice is the soft golf case. But it's important to get some perspective because this bag will have the job of protecting what may be the biggest expense of your golfing passion - those high quality customized golf clubs. So the quality of your golf case that must keep those golf clubs from harm on the road may not be the place to economize. If you must find a way to get good travel equipment for your clubs on a budget, think about buying a used case on eBay or at a pawn shop in town.

For checking your golf clubs through baggage claim, there really is no substitute for a hard shell golf case. In fact, if you check with the air carrier, they may even insure your golf clubs if you pack them in a case that protects them well. An investment in a quality hard shell golf case can serve you well for many years of travel to some of the great golf courses of the world. And it can be helpful to protect your golf clubs from other harsh environments as well.

This is not to say that soft golf cases are not very good choices for certain kinds of travel situations. A soft case is excellent for a car excursion because it is lighter and can be packed into the truck of a car and not take up as much space as a hard case. Another plus is that you can wrap your clubs in a soft casing and they can still fit down into the golf bag for transportation so you can keep the entire unit together for the entire trip.

In addition to a sturdy golf case, you should take the second step of protection and pad each individual golf club inside the golf case before going on the road. Quality golf shops can sell you head covers that can be tied to each club to keep the heads in balance and to protect from scratches or dings. But also pad around each golf club with towels or some of your clothing for the trip so there is no movement inside that golf case as your clubs travel to your destination with you.

Providing your golf clubs with the loving care they need is something you think about after each game of golf. It is just part of the game after you play to clean your clubs and inspect them and if there are minor repairs needed to get the to the golf shop for those repairs before you play again. It only stands to reason then that you would extend that same level of care and concern for your clubs to taking them traveling with you to take your game to a new city or country to add another course to your list of ground you have conquered in your continued mission of conquest of the game of golf.
