For nearly 25 years, the Bernerhof Inn in Glen, New Hampshire, has been host to the Taste of the Mountains Cooking School. Twice each year, foodies flock to this picturesque site to spend a weekend learning some of the historic inn's delectable recipes. The lessons range from how to prepare a Sunday brunch to the delicate art of fish cookery. In addition to the classes, the inn has its own German-style restaurant, an intimate pub and the CyBear Lounge, where guests can snack and check their email at the same time. Rooms are cozy with country furnishings and quilt-topped beds, and the inn is close to ski areas, fishing, golfing and much more.
PENNSYLVANIA INNS
Nestled on the banks of the Delaware Canal, the Golden Pheasant Inn in Erwinna, Pa., is a delight for all the senses. The inn was built prior to the Civil War to serve canal travelers, and all six of the inn's guest rooms have been restored in period style by innkeeper Barbara Faure. The inn's restaurant is French-style gourmet, a perfect spot for a romantic evening. For those who love to cook, book a stay at the inn for one of the night's when Chef Michel Faure is hosting a cooking class. Chef Faure's demonstrations include samples of the dishes prepared as well as a glass or two of notable local wines.
CALIFORNIA WINE COUNTRY
You've watched them on your television set, now come and enjoy renown chefs up-close and personal at Ramekins' Bed and Breakfast. Ideally located in Sonoma, the B&B is close to dozen of wineries and offers six well-appointed guest rooms. But Ramekins is not just a great inn with a terrific location, it is an award-winning cooking school, where chefs such as Jacques Pepin, Martin Yan and Cat Cora have led classes. The school offers dozens of different classes, each featuring its own special theme.
