Holiday Villas In Kefallonia

There are plenty of different styles of holiday homes in Kefallonia, which one can rent for your vacation. This is because it is one of the largest of all the Islands that make up Greece and the name itself when translated into English means "Island with a Head". Certainly if you were to go into space, you will see why it means what it does.

Of all the Greek Islands, that one can stay on this seems to be one of the most popular of them with tourists from around the globe. As well as having some beautiful villages, which have been unspoilt by time, there are also some really fantastic unspoilt beaches as well.

Yet whilst staying on the island there is plenty of other things that one can do which can make your stay here even more fulfilling and exciting. Below we look at some of the other attractions that the Island has to offer and which will be worth a visiting during your time on it.

1. The Cave of Drogarati - This is now one of the oldest as well as one of the largest stalagmatic caves in the world. It is believed to be around 150 million years old and is well worth a visit just to be able to stand in the Concert Cave. This is a cave that is situated 150 feet below the earths surface and is renowned for have superb acoustic qualities.

2. The Church of Saint Gerasimos - This particular church is located near to the village of Lassi and is built out of a natural cave. Saint Gerassimos after who the church is named was believed to have lived here until he moved to the Omala Valley in order to reorganize the monastery (Agios Gerassimos) that was located in it.

3. The Kefallonia Archaeological Museum - Situated in the town of Argostoli it holds numerous different antiquities that have been found on the island. It helps to provide a clear understanding of life on this island both during pre-historic times and when the Romans came to it.

4. The Agios Andreas Monastery - Another very important religious building that is now the only part of the Katholikon Nunnery left standing after the earthquake that hit the island back in 1953. Also many people visit the museum attached to this religious place in order to view a holy relic (the sole of the right foot of the Apostle Andrew), which was placed in it back in 1988.

You can see from above there is so much more that one can do whilst staying on this beautiful island.
