Western Isles Bed And Breakfast And Stornoway Hotels

Found on the periphery of Europe out in the north Atlantic ocean, off the west coast of Scotland, the Western Isles is a collection of over two hundred islands. Once many of these islands held small population but today only a small handful remain populated with the most densely populated, and largest, island being the Isle of Lewis. The main bulk of the population is found in the areas main town of Stornoway which serves as the main administrative center.

Stornoway is a small fishing town with a population of around 28,000 people. At one time, during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the population was only about 10,000 but during the herring fishing season this would quickly rise to just over 30,000 with thousands of fishermen and other workers taking up residence for the season. Today the fishing fleet is tiny by comparison but the highly active industry helps to add a great deal of interest to the town. Stornoway is, most probably, the best place to base yourself for a Hebridean vacation so we have listed below some of the most popular bed and breakfast accommodation available in the town.

The Caberfeidh Hotel can be found on the outskirts of Stornoway set back off the road in its own well kept gardens. If you like trees there are a few mature examples in the hotels gardens but opposite can be found the astounding wooded Lews Castle grounds that are well worth exploring.

Steornabhagh's oldest hotel, the Royal Hotel, first opened to the public in 1850. Situated right in the center of the town, the Royal has managed to maintain much of it's unique character while also managing to keep up to date offering modern high standard accommodation.

The Caladh Inn is the town's largest hotel with the most number of rooms. The Caladh Inn can be found a few minutes from the town center on the road out to Stornoway airport. Being so centrally located the Caladh Inn is popular with both tourists and business travelers.

The 4 star Holm View Guest House can be found roughly fifteen minutes drive from the town center of Stornoway. A quick read of the many positive reviews will show you that the reputation of Holm View is superb with mention made of the luxurious accommodation and friendly hospitality. Bed and breakfast is also available in their Holm View Cottage.

The Thorlee Guest House is one of the most popular in Stornoway due to it's competitive pricing and it's most central location. The 3 star Thorlee may not be the most luxurious but it is certainly the most affordable accommodation available in Stornoway and a fine alternative to the much more expensive hotel accommodation.

All of the accommodation in this article can be booked online. This fact is very important as, at certain times of the year, it is extremely common to find many guest houses in the Western Isles fully booked with "No Vacancies" signs displayed. It is always the wisest decision to book your accommodation as early as possible long before your trip. Wherever you decide to stay in Stornoway you can be sure that the hospitality will be flawless as this part of the world is widely known for offering some of the finest hospitality in the country.
